Es ist immer erstaunlich wie schnell Ereignisse aus den Medien verschwinden. Das heisst aber nicht dass die Folgen einer Katastrophe wie des Erdbebens vor Sendai vor drei Wochen bereits behoben seien. Vielmehr wird erst jetzt langsam klar wie verheerend das Beben gewesen und das Hilfe für die betroffene Region unerlässlich ist. Von daher ist es wunderbar dass unsere Aktion "Help for Sendai" so gut angelaufen ist, dass wir in den nächsten Tagen eine erste Überweisung an unsere Kollegen in Sendai starten können um dort ein wenig beim Wiederaufbau zu helfen.
Wir hoffen dass die Aktion auch weiter so gut läuft und werden ab jetzt regelmäßig die Liste der Unterstützer aktualisieren!
Es sind gerade einmal sieben Monate vergangen, seit viele von uns anlässlich der ICMF12 bei unseren japanischen Kollegen in Sendai zu Gast waren. Sendai - eine lebendige Stadt, eine - im Vorfeld des Tanabata-Festes - bunte Stadt, eine hervorragend organisierte Universität auf hohem internationalem Standard, Menschen voller Gastfreundschaft.
Heute, sieben Monate später, eine Woche nach Erdbeben und Tsunami sind Teile der Stadt zerstört, die Universität ist mindestens bis Ende April geschlossen, viele Menschen sind tot oder werden vermisst.
Wir wissen zwar mittlerweile, dass es all unseren Kollegen außerhalb der Region Sendai gut geht und dass wohl auch die meisten Mitglieder der Sendai Gruppe die Katastrophe überstanden haben, aber gerade was die Gruppe in Sendai betrifft, gibt es bisher keinen direkten Kontakt, sind keine Daten über das Schicksal einzelner oder Schäden an den Laboratorien verfügbar.

It is always astonishing how fast incidents vanish from the news. But that does not mean that the follow-up of a catastrophy like the quake in Sendai three weeks ago would be cleared already. In fact even now it becomes clearer how desastrous the quake has been and that support for the region is indispensable. Therfore it's great that our activity "Help for Sendai" started off so well that we can arrange a first transfer to our colleagues in Sendai next days to support the rebuilding.
We hope that the activity will further be successfull and we'll permanently update the list of donators now!
Just seven month ago many of us have visited our colleagues in Sendai for ICMF12. Sendai – an agile city, just a few days before the Tanabata-festival a city full of colours, an excellently organised university on highest international standard, a tremendous hospitality.
Today, seven month later, one week after earth quake and tsunami, parts of the city are destroyed, the university is closed at least until end of April, many people died or are still missing.
We know meanwhile that our colleagues outside the Sendai area are well and we’ve also the information that at least most of the colleagues in Sendai overcame the catastrophe. But we’ve no direct contact to the group in Sendai yet, we’ve no information about the fate of individuals or about damage of university facilities.
